Flower Spotting (zine) and Lake Union Flowers (poster) were companion projects created for Short Run in 2024, designed to be sold and traded at the event. The material for both works began in the summer of 2024, when I regularly visited Lake Union Park several times a week to sketch, photograph, and document the various species of flowers growing there.

The project originated from a desire to highlight the often-overlooked plant life within an urban environment. Lake Union Park is surrounded by corporate offices, and many people pass through daily without noticing the natural beauty around them. Through the zine and poster, I wanted to draw attention to these quiet details—encouraging people to pause, look more closely, and connect with their surroundings.

My process began with analog sketching and paper mockups to explore scale, layout, and pacing before moving into digital design. This hands-on approach helps me think visually and plan structure efficiently. The poster was initially intended for risograph printing, but when the ink colors I planned for weren’t available, I adapted the design and completed my first multi-color screen print instead. The zine features a risograph-printed cover and a unique interactive element: a hidden, cut-out mini zine embedded in the innermost page. I wanted to create a tactile, participatory experience that rewarded curiosity and interaction.
